As "Anti-Aging Medicine" becomes more readily available throughout the United States, traditional medical review boards will look more closely at this type of medical specialty and the physicians who practice within this segment.  The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) wanted to provide some protection for their members against the review of the physician's practice and any disciplinary proceedings by the state medical boards.  Out of this desire, the A4M Medefense product was developed for the legal expense reimbursement for such proceedings.

Why do I need this type of insurance?  One of the most frequent regulatory actions against physicians by state medical boards is for "unprofessional conduct", which they can easily say occurs due to practicing non-traditional medicine.  If your state medical board or institution questions the type of medicine you are practicing, they will ask for a formal review meeting.  Instead of having to face the medical board alone, legal counsel will join you and make sure your best interests are protected.

Coverage Type:  This is a Claims-Made policy that covers legal expenses incurred by having legal representation during a state medical board review and sanctioning meeting.  It does not pay for any judgements, fines, or penalties.

Do I have the option of using my own attorney?  Yes, but it involves a 20% coinsurance up to the limit of liability.  NAS will appoint a counsel from their panel of attorneys who are specialized in the area of healthcare legal defense.
